During the early stages of Covid-19 pandemic we were in a fortunate position to be able to make the decision to put our self funded tech company on hold. I was then given a challenge by my daughter which can be summed up " Single moms, food security". After plenty of research and assigning weighed variables to several different business models, I arrived at an interesting conclusion - create a low tech mushroom factory. So that is what I did! Should be noted that I actually knew nothing about mushrooms, other than they showed up on my pizza and in my spaghetti sauce.
The basic business model that I came up with takes what I believe are great ideas and mushroom growing techniques that have been freely given on the internet by passionate mushroom growing enthusiasts, I have added a few "variables" so please feel free to copy, use or better yet suggest ways of doing things differently.
Currently we take roughly 15lbs of spend coffee grounds (including the filters) from the local A&W, mix in 6 scoops of wood fuel pellets along with 8 liters of water and let the 60 quart Reynolds mixer do it's thing for 15-20 minutes resulting in 6 - 6+ pound bags of "low tech pasteurized" substrate that the Oyster strain mushrooms appear to love.
